Tell the people running Los Angeles that you do not support this hotel

CLICK HERE TO SEND YOUR EMAIL TO THE DECISION-MAKERS NOW

We need your help.  No money required.  Just please send an email today.  This is the reason we have been organizing.

In spite of extraordinary community opposition and Councilmember Koretz’s emphatic statement that he does not support this project, the developer is unrelenting in his pursuit of his commercial hotel project — and LA City Planning is advancing his application through the review and approval process.  This project is outrageous and we cannot allow it.  Now more than ever, we need to make our voices heard.

With just one click, you can reach all the important decision makers — Mayor Garcetti, Paul Koretz, the Planning Department and tell them we do not support them destroying our neighborhoods, our canyons, our mountains.

In the past few years, the developer has spent literally one million dollars in lobbying to get his project to this point.  This is not hyperbole, this is publicly available information.  He has been trying to buy influence with the city and he has clearly been successful if his egregious application has gotten this far.  But we have something more powerful than money.  We have each other.  With our collective voices, we can stand up to this developer — and make a statement that echoes across the whole region.

Our voices need to be loud and clear.  Government only works when it knows we’re watching.  The public comment period for this critical phase of the Planning process is only 30 days, ending December 9th.  If you have specific thoughts, feel free to personalize your email and let them know how much you care.

Subject:  ENV-2018-1509-EIR - No Hotel In Benedict Canyon

Dear Mayor Garcetti, City Councilmembers, Director Bertoni, and City Planner Jason McCrea:

I strongly oppose amending our city’s General Plan and changing our zoning to allow a hotel to be built in Benedict Canyon.  It is simply wrong that this over-reaching application, which is so out of step with our Community Plan, has been allowed to proceed to this point.

I stand with our Councilmember in his clear objection to the proposed commercial project that will set a dangerous precedent and create a template for converting natural hillsides and residential areas to hotel and other commercial uses.  This outrageous proposed General Plan Amendment and Zoning Change would have a profound impact on the community, the environment, and the character of this residential area forever.

This hotel project — with its years of construction, commercial usage, round-the-clock staff and events — would have extraordinary environmental impacts such as traffic congestion, noise, grading, removal of protected trees, devastation of widlife corridors, along with the significant impact of a project of this scale on fire safety.

I do not support the destruction of our neighborhood, our canyons, our mountains.  I urge you — the stewards of our city and our environment — to protect the character and the integrity of the Santa Monica Mountains for future generations.

Respectfully,

Share this with anyone who opposes ten years of construction, the demolition of trees and hillsides, the destruction of our wildlife corridor.  If you are concerned about greater fire danger, increased traffic seven days a week, noise every night and weekend, please stand with TreePeople, stand with your Councilmember, stand with your community, and spread the word today.
